ALL ABOUT OUR TRIP, 1978-2008
The Baltimore-to-Belmont Bus Trip started a few years after Bob Gibson witnessed the last Triple Crown winner at the Belmont Stakes in 1978 (Affirmed). A group of race enthusiasts had accompanied Bob on the train from Murder City to Long Island for several years — until Bob suggested that a bus trip might be a lot more fun, and flexible, than a train trip. I mean, there could be pizza, beer and bloody marys, not to mention “Let It Ride,” the classic horse racing movie. The rest is history.
